The overall design aesthetic for this Graystone, located in Chicago’s Logan Square, was based on the client’s wish for an industrial modern style. Imparfait Design Studio adjusted the client’s original concept to create a warmer home environment with vintage character while including modern industrial touches. Almost the entire home was gutted. Imparfait redesigned the home’s two fireplaces and added new floors, stairs, casings and crown moldings to transform the home from an 80s open concept to a traditional Graystone floorplan with distinct rooms. Imparfait removed wood medallions on the floor and lots of tray ceilings, columns and late 80s arches but kept the unique tin ceiling in the kitchen. The design team overcame COVID challenges and a flooded basement to create a home that seamlessly blends vintage history with modern style.
