HARBOR COUNTRY AND SOUTHWEST MICHIGAN
A LAKESIDE STUDIO FOR LAKE HOUSES, COTTAGES AND YEAR-ROUND HOMES
Harbor Country is the stretch of Lake Michigan shoreline in Southwest Michigan that runs from New Buffalo through Union Pier, Lakeside, Harbert and Sawyer to Three Oaks, about 75 miles from Chicago. Imparfait Design Studio's Michigan studio sits on Lakeside Road in the middle of it. It is where Rebekah and Nick spend much of the year, and where a good share of our Michigan work happens: weekend houses that need to work hard for a full house of guests, historic cottages that deserve their character kept intact, and new builds that should feel as though they have always been there.
A lake house asks different things of its design than a city home. The materials have to forgive sand, wet towels and dogs. The plan has to open to the water and the outdoors. There need to be more places to sleep than a family strictly needs, and more places to gather than to sit alone. We bring the same interior architecture and design approach we use in Chicago, applied to those demands. Our projects here run from Harbor Country inland to Berrien Springs, and north along the shore to Spring Lake and Grand Haven. Kitchens on our Michigan projects are designed by our sister studio, KitchenLab Interiors, including the Grand Rapids kitchen.

Space planning is the first step to creating great design. We start each project by measuring the space or looking at existing floor plans with the client to begin the conversation. Much of great design is problem solving and this is where it begins.
Design development

We collaborate with our clients while narrowing down design boards, finishes, fixtures and furniture selections. Ensuring that the design flows throughout the house, with a focus on functionality and family-friendly materials, in addition to beauty.
Construction

We collaborate closely with the builder, contractor, architect and landscape designer to ensure that the design intention is executed as envisioned.
