These clients were downsizing, looking for a more manageable home after the kids flew the nest. They happened upon a quaint home, designed by renowned architects Baranick and Conte, that had the same owner since it was built in the 70s. The home was quite a time capsule and standalone from the surrounding suburban counterparts. Imparfait explored the idea of maintaining the dark, moody aesthetic of its design, but ultimately opted for something lighter, more refined, and inviting. This renovation included a complete reconfiguration of the kitchen, primary bedroom, primary bathroom, closet, and small study. In order to make the lower level feel more finished, the design team enclosed the laundry room and added in wood floors, a Murphy bed for guests, another office space, and a beautiful powder room where there was previous wine storage. In tribute to mid-century modern design, Imparfait incorporated nuanced elements such as grasscloth wallpaper, fluted walls, dark velvets, and brass finishes.
