The Sheridan project certainly exemplifies timeless style because it was Imparfait Design Studio’s first comprehensive home design, completed in 2006. The original architectural elements of this stately home provided incredible inspiration. The home was built in 1882 as a Victorian summer retreat, with clapboard siding and a wrap-around porch. In the 1920s, the façade was converted to a Tudor stucco style, but the interior remained Victorian. The effect was disorienting when you walked in the door, so Imparfait used space planning to modernize the flow. A secondary staircase that separated the kitchen from what was a den was removed, and the den was converted into a breakfast room. Imparfait designed columns around structural needs to house a two-sided desk area where the stairs used to live and moved the basement staircase to the new mudroom. Imparfait integrated vintage furnishings, quirky art and accessories throughout to keep the home from feeling too heavy and serious.
